In 2016, the bakery sector (including the confectionery and pasta industry) generated over 25 billion dollar revenues in China – second only to the US – for an average annual growth of 11,93% between 2011 and 2016.

"However", according to Ita, "the machines implemented don’t guarantee high levels of productivity and added value: the result is a low-quality and not diversifies production, and a competition on costs rather than on quality. Companies in the sector are there for entering a renewal processof their equipment, focus ingabove all on highlyautomated, energysavingsmachinery". Italy rankseighth placeamong China’s leading suppliers of bakery machinery, behind Germany, Austria and Netherlands. In the first half of 2017, Italian sector turnover in China experienced a sharpin crease, at 6 million dollars.
